Local Law 55 New York’s ‘Indoor Allergen’ Law-What this means for Tenants and Landlords

Effective January 19, 2019, New York City landlords (in buildings with 3+ units or any unit where a tenant has asthma) must perform annual inspections of units for indoor allergen hazards-molds, allergens and pests.  These biological contaminants are known to cause allergic reactions and a variety of symptoms, including sneezing, watery eyes, coughing, shortness of breath, dizziness, lethargy, fever, digestive problems and asthma.  Children, the elderly and those with breathing problems and/or lung diseases are particularly susceptible to disease-causing biological agents in the indoor air.  In an effort to improve the Indoor Air Quality of New Yorkers, this law has been implemented.

Oasis Indoor Environmental is qualified to perform the annual inspections, including distributing a copy of New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) pamphlet to current tenants in accordance with the Local Law 55 guidelines.  We also provide the landlord documentation that an annual inspection has been completed in compliance with Local Law 55.

Indoor Air Quality is essential for good health. By working together, we have the opportunity to make positive changes in improving the indoor air quality.
